Using the Professional Standards to Support Successful Implementation of the New Curriculum

Attend this half-day workshop for headteachers and senior leaders and get free copy of the XLence Standards Review Framework for Teaching and Leadership as part of the cost (normally £125).

This course will qualify under the Professional Learning Grant.

The workshop will run from 9.30am until 12pm and will cover how individuals, teams and whole schools can self and peer evaluate against all elements of the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership using the XLence Standards Review Framework for Teaching and Leadership and our online system.

The workshop will cover:

  • reviewing against the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership in Wales;
  • using outcomes to identify professional learning needs at individual, whole school and network learning community level;
  • ensuring leaders know how to scaffold and support quality professional dialogue – a key principle in the intended use of the Standards;
  • using a range of evidence in evaluating practice.

Feedback So Far

The conference recently ran at full capacity in Cardiff, with 100% of attendees stating that the workshop extended their current knowledge of the Professional Standards.

Feedback included:

“Very interesting day and has made the Professional Standards much more clear. Thank you.”

“Being able to ask questions and talk about context was really helpful.”

Future Workshops

Later we will be running a second workshop, which introduces the XLence Standards Monitoring Framework for Teaching and Leadership. This is the complementary Framework to the Review Framework and helps schools see how they can produce evidence to support self, peer and whole school evaluations.

It will cover how all elements of teaching and leadership within the Professional Standards can be effectively monitored and developed. This workshop will focus on observation, but will outline the importance of using a range of evidence in a planned and structured way to make secure judgements over time about the quality of teaching and learning.
